Text Box: President’s Message

Dear PSPE-Philly Chapter
members:
The end of the year and the
holiday season is upon us
again.  I wish you and your
family a safe and happy holiday
season.  Please share the joy of
the season with family, friends,
and those who do not have as
much a decent life as we,
professional engineers, are very blessed with.

Your society has a very important task to accomplish before the end of the year, and that is the selection of the winners of the Delaware Valley Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award.  Each year, for the longest time, PSPE has taken the lead to plan, promote and organize this important program.  The presentations of nominated and top-listed projects are typically held at our December’s chapter meeting.  I always look forward to this program because it is very informative to hear about the various engineering projects in the Delaware Valley that were completed during the current year.  This year we have seven finalists (projects) that will be presented at our December 6th meeting.  Interestingly, this year’s entries are varied and covered many engineering disciplines, from high-tech studio to missile defense system, from racing cars to aircraft, from prison to zoo to mega sports arena.  I believe the presentations will be very interesting and informative, so come out and join us.    More details of this meeting are provided in another section of this issue.  I hope to see you there!

November’s meeting was very good where twelve (12) past presidents showed up to grace the occasion dedicated as the President’s Night.  The current and a past State Presidents were also in attendance. I thank them all for responding to our call.  Please come back anytime.  As expected, our current State President, Leonard Bernstein, P.E., F. NSPE, was the speaker for that night.  Len discussed the state of the state society and the new initiatives he is pushing this year.  Please read about this in another section of this issue.  We had also invited the candidates for the 2008 Engineer of the Year (EOY) in Delaware Valley.  I am happy to report that we fully supported the winner, Dr. Dianne Dorland of Rowan University, who attended our last meeting.  She convinced us of how excited she was to be jointly nominated by two technical societies and the exciting changes/programs she will bring to the Delaware Valley Engineers Week activities.  Congratulations, Dianne, and I look forward to working with you.

Happy Holidays!
