COMPETITION FOR THE OUTSTANDING ENGINEERING ACHEIVEMENT AWARD
The PSPE Philadelphia Chapter is proud to announce the 2004 Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award program, which will occur at our December 2nd monthly Chapter meeting.
In following with tradition, we have planned an evening of exciting projects that will be competing for the 2004 Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award. As of press time, nominations for the competition are still open, but from early indications, we expect five to seven entries.
Entries will be judged by a panel composed of the Presidents of the local PSPE chapters.
Our Chapter Meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn on City Line Avenue (City Line and Presidential Blvd.) with our Board Meeting at 5PM, Social Hour at 6PM, dinner at 7PM and Competition to begin at 7:30PM.

by John Liddy, P.E.
I want to thank all the Engineers that take time out of their personal life and dedicate themselves to the future of engineering. Our chapter and engineers week council have a number of activities during the year, where valuable time from our personal life is shared to help influence young people to become Engineers. For those of you who are involved, you understand that this time spent is very rewarding. It is a wonderful thing to see youngsters start to ponder thoughts of inventing and discovering.
It is also rewarding to see young engineers challenging themselves to become PE’s. Just the other day I was teaching a class of newly hired engineers and in the elevator on the way out from class they were talking about taking the “test”. I inquired what “Test”? The reply “Oh the EIT”. If I could offer a little help. Taking the test should be a fun experience, and it should be used as an opportunity to challenge yourself. The reward is yours forever.
I often think of the relay race when the baton is passed from one to the other, as each member of the team races to pass the baton to the next, in the hope of finishing first. We can think of ourselves, as relay racers, carrying the next generation our excitement and enthusiasm for engineering.
I often hear people say, “Oh you volunteer your time!,” “You mean you don’t get paid?,” or, “How can you spend time with all those geeks in one room, I would get itchy.” What attracts me to other engineers is the honestly in our conversations and there unyielding energy to become better in all aspects of life.
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
